Judd Trump beats Zhao Xintong 5-1 to reach British Open semi-finals

Judd Trump produced a dominant display to beat world number one Zhao Xintong 5-1 in the British Open quarter-finals and book his place in the semi-finals. The Englishman will face Aaron Hill or Jak Jones on Saturday, while Mark Selby meets Liam Highfield in the other last-four tie. Trump started with breaks of 101 and 57 to lead 2-0, before Zhao pulled a frame back with a century. From that point onwards, Trump suffocated his opponent, limiting Zhao to just 29 points across the next three frames while adding two further half-centuries to seal a stunning 5-1 victory. Speaking to Channel 5, Trump said: "When it goes down to two or one table it is a completely different set-up and you feel like the tournament comes alive. In that kind of scenario I am so used to being out there and it gets the adrenalin going and it gets me more up for the fight especially against him [Zhao]." Trump, 37, has now won 31 ranking titles and remains one of the most dangerous players on the tour. Earlier on Friday, Liam Highfield beat teenage star Stan Moody 5-2, while Selby whitewashed Jack Lisowski 5-0. The semi-finals are set to be explosive, with Trump determined to prove he is still the best player in the world.
